Ahi Tuni & Avocado Tower & Grilled Artichoke Appetizers |
We dined there on a week night and experienced flawless and friendly service in a low-key, casual atmosphere with a diverse variety of delicious food! The giant menu ranges from waffles, omelettes, egg dishes and sandwiches for breakfast/brunch (on Saturday and Sunday until 3pm), to a selection of seafood entrees, veggie and healthful plates, pasta dishes, burgers, salads, sandwiches and grilled pizza on thin crust dough (available gluten free) for dinner.
Plus, they have craft beers and wines available, with wines from grape varietals selected by Truxton’s, where you can drink by the glass, carafe or bottle. Although the wine selection is small, they are carefully selected by the restaurant, as all the food dishes on the menu are as well.
It was great to be able to try a taste of the wine, plus the waiter made suggestions for other wines and brought a tasting of those as well. We started out with the Ahi Tuni & Avocado Tower appetizer, which was simply to die for! There was an ample serving of sushi grade ahi atop a bed of guacamole in a round shape, served with delicious tasting taro chips. The sushi was flavored lightly with ginger and Yuzu Soy Sauce. We also tried the grilled artichoke which was delectable. A whole artichoke cut in half and grilled to perfection was very easy to eat, comes with a dijon mayo and oregano vinaigrette for delightful dipping.
The specials of the day were too tempting to pass up and we ordered a blackened Alaskan salmon with a pineapple relish that was not too sweet and not too tart, served with grilled asparagus and home made mashed potatoes, plus a seafood fettucine with cod, salmon and shrimp, topped with creamed spinach. Both dishes were flavorful and well seasoned – simply delicious!
Topping off the meal was the Chocolate Pecan Tart that was amazing! We couldn’t believe we had room for the dessert, which was big enough for two people to split. the house made dessert is served warm with a giant scoop of vanilla and a caramel sauce. Scrumptious! All this in a nice, casual atmosphere with moderate prices where couples and small groups were dining plus a family or two made us feel right at home. The AKFF Blog recommends checking out Truxton’s in Santa Monica for your next meal! Say hello to Erin the friendly General Manager at the restaurant.
