Toasting Marion Davies at the Annenberg Beach House

Back to the flapper era, actress, entertainer and philanthropist Marion Davies was also known as the paramour of newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst, who built a palatial home for her on the beach in Santa Monica. Does that ring a bell? If that doesn’t, this will; the Annenberg Community Beach House with the restored guest home of Marion Davies along with a super-sized pool where you can sometimes see the cool synchronized swimming classes was the place to be last Sunday for the celebration of Davies birthday.

Enter the guest house to be greeted by one of the knowledgeable and friendly docents dressed in flapper attire such as Maureen, who told the fascinating story of the estate, followed by a mini tour led by Ruth Ann in the parlor, bringing a past era to life.

There were also swing dance lessons in the beach house, followed by a toast celebrating the birthday of Marion Davies. So how old would she be today? Of course, you don’t ask a lady for her birthday! A splendid time was had by all who attended this free event.
