The Venice Veterans Wall tagged on Memorial Day needs your help to be restored. For many years the mural served as a memorial for all of our fallen heroes. The Venice Chamber of Commerce leads the way to restore the mural, a part of the community for 19 years.
Artist and Vietnam Veteran, Peter Stewart developed the mural to commemorated every POW/MIA from the southeast Asia conflict by inscribing their names all over the mural. The mural was completed and made possible with the help of Vietnam veterans and POW/MIA families. By 1997 his mural took its place in the Venice community.
The purpose of mural was to remember and honor those who sacrificed their lives fighting for our country. Shortly after the mural was completed Peter Stewart passed away, leaving his mark and legacy in the Venice community. The restoration of the mural will help bring back what was lost in the damage and regain its original purpose to honor our brave soldiers.
The restoration project is moving forward with SPARC (located in Venice), who have generously offered to help with the project once funds are raised.

The Gorillas are everywhere in Venice! For real – seen on many walls such as those inside NextSpace Venice and outside of Gjusta Bakery for example. Now you can wear one!
The Bodhi Gorilla mural seen on the walls at Gjusta inspires yogis and dancers alike, encouraging human nature to be openly interpreted and embraced along the way.
Isabelle Alford-Lago says:
“My gorillas are the uncensored human, laying bare a primitiveness we can all relate to. Despite their large hairy bodies and prominent nostrils, the gorillas redefine super star. Poised in the nude, they greet you with genuine self-confidence. This is why I also take my work to the public space, painting gorillas on exterior walls, so they exist within our “civilized” environment and remind us to be at peace with our own human nature.“
